The artist talk will take place as part of the exhibition NUCLEAR(OFF)SPRING at the xpon-art gallery.
The NUCLEAR (OFF)SPRING at the xpon-art gallery and the SENDER e.V. ends exactly forty years to the day after the explosion in reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant*
The exhibition brings together four artists currently living in Hamburg—Arthur Bondar, Serafima Bresler, Alisa Sizykh, and Oksana Yushko—who have a direct connection to catastrophe through origin, personal and collective memories, and family biographies.
The exhibition traces how the catastrophe and its aftermath altered everyday life, transforming the Exclusion Zone into a territory that continues to shape the politics, environments, and shared histories of multiple countries. The Zone has gradually transformed into a timeless place, uniting the past, present, future and is viewed as a new nuclear threat in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The accompanying public program will take place at the SENDER e.V. art gallery from April 22th–26th, 2026. For five days, the artists will open the space as a residency and present their artistic research and historical evidence from the Exclusion Zone, as well as artist talks and performances by invited guest artists, film screenings, etc.
* Internationally often referred through the Russian transliteration „Chernobyl“, the Ukrainian name „Chornobyl“ carries its own political significance.
