Tomorrowland

TOMORROWLAND shows the everyday life of young generations affected by the toxic aftermaths of the American war in Vietnam as seen by Berlin based photographer Phuong Tran Minh.
During the time at Friendship Village in Hanoi/Vietnam, a place where veterans and young PwD (People with Disabilities) temporarily live and are cared for, she got to know individuals who live with different physical and mental issues. It didn’t take long for her to be trusted by them, hugged and greeted heartfully every day they spent together. During her stay in this project village she researched and experienced how PwD in Vietnam live, what kind of difficulties they are confronted with and which possibilities for an inprovement of their lives are made use of.
These photographs document an ostensible dark chapter of a war’s burden, but enlighten by their vitality, humanity and emotional closeness in a profound way. Nevertheless, the crucial question for the photographer is what the future of these youths and youngsters will look like, in a rough and tradition and modernity torn society after leaving this safe and friendly area of Friendship Village.
