Die Band "The Dead Trees" aus Los Angelese ist heute zu Gast im Schaufenster von Michelle Records.
The Dead Trees Michael Ian Cummings (vox, guitar), Todd Dalhoff (bass, vox), Matthew Borg (guitar, vox) and Noah Rubin (drums, vox), a bunch of wandering nomads in search of the perfect sound. After forming the band in Boston and recording their debut Fort Music EP shortly thereafter, The Dead Trees packed up and headed west to Portland, Oregon. Somewhere along the way, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr, got his hands on the EP and took The Dead Trees on two US tours supporting his solo effort. Between tours the guys spent their time in Portland working odd jobs, and writing and recording their first full-length, King of Rosa. After releasing the album on Milan Records/ADA in late 2008, they spent most of the next year on the road with bands such as The Whigs, Adam Green and MGMT, as well as touring Europe, Brazil and the U.S. as support as well as Little Joy's backing band. At the end of 2009, after being around the world and back, Dead Trees found their Portland home too small and moved south – this time to Los Angeles. The move connected them with producer Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Little Joy, Adam Green) with whom they produced their best recording to date: a buoyant, scrappy and tuneful collection of songs, with the ragtag and joyous sound of both the band's adventures and of their sunny new home. "I feel inspired by LA," says Cummings. "There is space here to think and write without getting distracted. I know no one here, and I kind of like it that way. The sunshine doesn't hurt either." The album, tentatively titled WHATWAVE was recorded earlier this year in the Hollywood Hills at New King Sound, and features musical contributions from Little Joy's Fabrizio Moretti, Binki Shapiro and Rodrigo Amarante. The Dead Trees paid for the album with donations pledged by fans and supporters on fundraising website Kickstarer.com. "The grassroots outpour of help has been amazing!" says Cummings. "We reached our goal of $17,000 and completely funded our record independently, and are going to do a self-release in the U.S. that is as creative as the funding technique and the record itself." Their self-release will combined with the efforts of their European label, Affairs of the Heart and Japanese label Lively Up worldwide.
