brooks am Abend: THE MONOTROL KID

Freitag, 9. Mai 2014
The Monotrol Kid is the artist name of Belgian born singer -songwriter, Erik Van den Broeck. Since September 2008 he has been busy building the foundations of The Monotrol Kid, writing, playing and recording while clocking up some serious guitar miles.

In 2011, he published his first album as a solo-artist but right now The Monotrol Kid has gained a few fellow musicians, Philip Mathuis on drums, Dries Vanhove on guitar and Bart Strubbe on Bass and all of them on backing vocals which brings both a richness and fullness to the music.

While the songs on the first album were still dreamy in a classic singer-songwriter style, the twelve brand new songs on the latest CD ‘my talk my song’, due to be released in May 2014, show another side and yet unheard of sound to The Monotrol Kid. This sound is Folk - Americana and is headed up by a distinctive voice with rich guitar tones and seems to echo the sound of the ‘Mermaid Avenue’ albums by Wilco and Billy Brag and the harmonies of The Jayhawks.
The strong melodies on ‘my talk, my song’ of this self-educated ballad maker will draw you in, touch your soul and stay with you.
